I have worked in the press and publicity industry all my working life,
starting out
in the early 1970’s at Garnett Dickinson Publishing in the
print quality control department.
My next move was to the South
Yorkshire & Rotherham Advertiser newspaper, which was
part of the
same group of companies where I managed a busy press and commercial darkroom.
From here I joined Whites News Agency Photographic of Sheffield in the early 1980’s, where I processed films and printed images for all the UK tabloid newspapers. I managed the office and darkrooms, which were used daily by national newspaper journalists and photographers. As an NGA member, I also operated the agency’s picture transmitter, which often dispatched our images to worldwide publications. Throughout the 1990’s I managed a busy freelance agency office in South Yorkshire where again I processed film and transmitted prints to the UK tabloid and broadsheet newspapers.
In 2002 I was forced to retire due to ill health after a series of spinal operations left me disabled. However, I can manage a few hours on my computer, so I am now trying to put my self taught talent to practical use by offering to make web sites for those who would like to get a presence on the world wide web.
